What Causes Mouth Ulcer?

Oral tissue ulcers can be caused by many means. An overreaction by body’s own resistance system can also cause ulceration.

Following are the factors that can provoke mouth ulcers

  • Stress
  • FatigueCauses of Mouth Ulcer
  • Illness
  • Injury from accidental biting or from excessive tooth brushing, or chewing sharp, or hard, foods
  • Hormonal changes
  • Menstruation
  • Sudden Weight loss
  • Food allergies, Foods that are known for increasing the risk of ulcers include chocolate, coffee, peanuts, almonds, strawberries, cheese, tomatoes and wheat flour.
  • Iron, Folic Acid and Vitamin B12 Deficiency
  • Stopping Smoking, One may find more mouth ulcers than usual when first stopping smoking. Body deals with the change in chemicals in the body with this kind of reaction.
  • Family History, 90% chances are that if both parents have mouth ulcer then child will have them too. About 40% of people who have recurrent mouth ulcers have a family history of ulcers.
  • Medication, sometimes mouth ulcers can also be caused as a reaction to a medicine. Some of the medicines which can cause mouth ulcers are Beta-blockers, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) & Nicorandi.
