Ulcers Types, Symptoms and Cure

Mouth Ulcer

Mouth Ulcer is also known as aphthous ulcers, mouth ulcers are painful. These are round or oval sores that form in the mouth.

Mouth Ulcers have three main types:

The most common type of ulcer is the Minor ulcers. 80% of all mouth ulcers are minor ulcers. Minor ulcers can heal naturally with 10 to 14 days and they are small (2-8mm in diameter). No scarring will be caused by minor ulcer.

Major ulcers are deeper and larger than minor ulcers, and usually have a raised or irregular border. They are usually 1cm or more in diameter. Major ulcer will heal more slowly then minor ulcer. It will take over a period of several weeks to heal and it can cause scarring. Approximately 10% of mouth ulcers are major.

Herpetiform ulcers form as multiple, pinhead-sized sores. There can be a range of five to 100 ulcers. These are tiny ulcers and they often fuse together to cause larger, irregular shaped sores, which are extremely painful. Approximately 5-10% of mouth ulcers are herpetiform.

Mouth Ulcer is a very common condition and most people suffer from it at least once in their life. Study proves that women are more likely candidate for this type of ulcer and people who are below 40 (Age).

Mouth ulcers cannot be passed from one person to another. It cannot be transferred by sharing food, glass or cutlery or from Kissing.

Mouth ulcer can be avoided by taking care not to damage your teeth and gums, and visiting the dentist regularly. Also it can be prevented by avoiding too hot food & drinks and by keeping stress under control and relaxing.

Infections can be resisted by a healthy varied diet including fruits, vegetables, milk, fish, wholegrains and lean red meat which will supply body necessary vitamins, zinc & iron to maintain a strong immune system.
