Causes of Stomach Ulcer
The destruction of gastric or intestinal mucosal lining of the stomach by hydrochloric acid is the main cause of peptic ulcers. The hydrochloric acid is an acid present in the digestive juices of stomach. An important role in the basis of both gastric and duodenal ulcers is the infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. Contaminated food and water can also transfer this Helicobacter pylori bacterium from one person to another. For Helicobacter pylori peptic ulcers the most effective treatment is the Antibiotics.
Another main reason for gastric ulcer is the injury of gastric mucosal lining and weakening of the mucous defenses. Duodenal ulcers are formatted and worsened by excess secretion of hydrochloric acid, genetic predisposition, and psychological stress.
Anti-inflammatory medications, such as aspirin are another major cause of ulcers. Cigarette smoking is another major cause of ulcer formation and it causes failure in its treatment as well.
“Nobody should smoke cigarettes - and smoking with an ulcer is like pouring gasoline on a burning house.”
